Monroe Salt Works

Monroe Salt Works pottery is handmade in rural Maine, reflecting the natural beauty of the countryside. Monroe Salt Works uses a process called salt glazing. This technique, which makes every individual piece unique, was developed in Germany in the 15th century. Handfuls of rock salt are thrown directly into the roaring kiln. The glaze results when the salt vapor reacts with the clay during the firing.

Please note that it is this unique process that allows EACH PIECE TO HAVE ITS OWN CHARACTER, which is the beauty of this type of pottery. Monroe Salt Works pottery is durable, ovenproof, microwaveable and dishwasher safe.
